Our main reasons for starting feeding schemes was because many parents cannot afford to provide their children with daily nutritious meals, placing a heavy repsonsibility on schools to do so. Even though feeding schemes are not sustainable in nature we cannot let children attend a full day of school on an empty stomach. We thus support feeding schemes at schools as we want to prevent children from being malnourished and ensure them becoming more active, nourished and healthy, also slowing opportunistic HIV infections. At the end of 2010 the number of children we feed increased from an average of 900 to 1 281 children per day. In 2011 the number rose to over 2000 children thanks to more generous donations and help from Food Bank.
In order to increase the sustainability of feeding schemes we started a permaculture food garden project which will supplement existing feeding schemes.
