This school is not officially part of the cluster schools, however, Calabash Trust’s involvement with
Sakhisizwe Secondary School began when a volunteer from the U.K., while visiting the school, saw children queuing up for a meal, which they receive from the school once a day. She was amazed to find that this would be the only food that these children would eat that day and that some children had to be turned away as there wasn’t enough food to go round.
This volunteer was so moved that when she returned to the U.K. she worked tirelessly to raise funds to ensure that the children could at least have some food each school day. She was keen that Calabash Trust should mentor the school and ensure her money was being well used and accounted for. Late 2006, she officially started supporting Sakhisizwe.
So far she has been able to raise funds for monthly groceries, renovated a school library, donated computers and installed security bars and doors on the computer lab. She continues to raise funds to meet the needs of the school.
